HIKE IT SOLO

Stories and itineraries from a solo female adventurer

Hi,

I’m Liene, originally from Latvia and now living in the urban jungles of London. I’ve fallen in love with mountains and hiking, especially thru-hikes and long-distance trails.

I usually hike solo, plan my own routes, and through this page, I want to share my itineraries, experiences, and practical notes that might help other independent solo travellers.

About me

Hi, I’m Liene, originally from Latvia and now living in the urban jungles of London. Despite growing up in “flatlandia” (shout-out to Gaiziņkalns, the highest peak at 312 m), I’ve fallen in love with mountains and hiking, especially thru-hikes and long-distance trails.

I usually hike solo, plan my own routes, and see hiking as one of the greatest source of joy available to me (I could go on and on about why I love it). I’m a DIY hiker; most of the tricks I know I’ve learned through my own experience. I travel on a low budget and don’t rely on expensive gear, but I have invested in a few carefully chosen pieces that I can genuinely swear by.

I’m especially drawn to mountain ranges, not necessarily to summit peaks, but to move through changing landscapes, villages, and paths at my own pace, ideally taking in some local culture along the way. I believe that secluded mountain villages tend to have some of the kindest people, regardless of the country.

Through this page, I want to share my itineraries, experiences, and practical notes that might help other independent solo (especially female) travellers feel more confident exploring on their own terms.
